Spending Christmas in a Holiday Lodge

By  Colin McDonald

If the thought of another Christmas at home is rapidly losing its appeal as the joys of tinsel, presents and Christmas tree seem to be burying themselves underneath a mountain of cooking and cleaning, endless tidying up and little time for privacy while obscure family members pop up at unexpected intervals, it is perhaps time to consider going away for the holidays.
The main benefit of being away from home is the wonderful fact of putting all chores on hold for the duration; a significant plus to anyone who has labored mightily on Christmas Day, barely snatching ten minutes to listen to the Queens Speech before collapsing in an exhausted heap and going to bed before the children!

Amongst the drawbacks are that spending Christmas away from home can induce homesickness and the general unfamiliarity with foods and traditions can be a problem; even something as simple as knowing where the milk and sugar are for that necessary cup of tea! Sun-worshippers may like the idea of lying on a beach somewhere, sipping a tropical cocktail while snow and robins are the furthest thing from their minds; however, many people prefer to stay in the United Kingdom for Christmas, if for no other reason than to have authentic Christmas weather, maybe even a snow flurry or two to create picturesque tableaux. Another drawback could be that family pets will need to be catered for, either at a boarding facility or having someone ‘pet-sit’ for them.

Norfolk lends itself admirably to being the location for a holiday away from home; particularly one of the holiday lodges available in the area. Norfolk is absolutely beautiful; miles of flat countryside which should be dull but are not due to the wonderful diversity of plant, animal and birdlife to be found in the area. Rolling heaths interspersed with the occasional evergreen, windmill or church spire are plentifully watered by the many rivers and waterways that provide a vital ecosystem for the birds that flock here from all over the world. Coastal paths and the seaside do not have to be the property of summertime only; wintry walks will reveal a precious private shore life not hinted at in tourist-busy summer.

Many of the lodges come with a housekeeping service meaning that the family can go out for a lovely morning walk to explore the area or stock up on snacks and treats and come back to find everything beautifully clean and tidy. The lodge will provide sufficient privacy for everyone to relax and feel properly at home, in a way not always possible in a hotel or even at a relative’s house. Imagine snuggling down in front of a genuine wood-fire on Christmas Eve, the flames sparkling off the tinsel and baubles, beautifully cozy while the frosty wind whistles outside – what better setting for the best family Christmas ever? Some lodges may even have a provision for pets to accompany their owners; how wonderful to have the whole family all together for one of the best days of the year.

Norfolk holiday lodges at Christmas can provide a wonderful setting for a memorable holiday, a time of laughter,
family fun and giving magic!

FAMILY HOLIDAY VACATIONS

BY CLAY LARROY
We lead such busy lives working, going to school, taking children to different activities that often we do not stop and talk to our children. We usually do not have time to sit around the dinner table and ask our children what they did today. Familyvacations are so important, as it gives us a way to connect with each other in a stress free relaxed environment. Families that take vacations together build memories that will last a lifetime. Christmas Vacation in Mexico is a Great Way to Enjoy the Holidays
There are countless and beautiful places to visit around the world. But a Christmas Vacation in Mexico is something you will always remember as the best Christmas ever.

You can enjoy seeing different areas of Mexico via a cruise ship. Or you can go to one of the tourist destinations for a holiday at the beach. But many visitors to Mexico find the best Christmas vacation takes place in the heart of the interior of Mexico, in Colonial Mexico.

As you leave the cold and dreary winter of where you live and head to San Miguel de Allende or Cuernavaca or Guadalajara, or Ajijic, Mexico you will be in awe.

You get the Sun-soaked days and mysterious and romantic nights that will call you back year after year. And you can really get a taste of the Mexican culture during a Christmas vacation in the land of eternal spring.
The traditions of a Mexican Christmas are many. Mexican Christmas starts around December 16th and does not end until January 6th by celebrating Day of the Kings. This day of the Kings commemorates the day the three wise men went to visit baby Jesus and present their gifts.

On the 6th of January, it is a tradition to have a small gathering of family and good friends and eat this special sweet bread called Rosca de Reyes, which is actually quite delicious and has yummy fruits baked on top!
But this tasty, sweet bread is not any ordinary pastry. Nope, this bread has something special hidden inside. If you happen to end up with a piece of this pastry with one of these little figurines inside (which represent baby Jesus) then you are supposed to host a small party on February 2. This day is called Day of the Candles or Dia de la Candelaria

Christmas in Mexico is a time of many parties and gatherings at the plaza. Mexico is an amazing place to celebrate this special time of year.
If you stay in a vacation rental home in Ajijic during your visit, you could enjoy your own Christmas traditions as well as those of Mexico. Cook your traditional meal, sip your hot spiced ponche with tequila, and open your presents. Play your special Christmas music while sitting on the terrace and smelling the fragrance of the flowers this time of year.

Christmas vacation in Mexico is truly the best of all worlds, visit soon!

One thing I love about Christmas music is that it has a tradition of warmth.
