Family Travel to Phoenix, Arizona

One of America's top outdoor destinations and the country's fifth largest city, it is not an accident that Phoenix is home to several of the best destination resorts located in the United States. Explore desert parks and lakes, tour archaeology ruins and historic gold mining towns, or visit one of the many the museums and state-of-the-art sporting facilities.
From Surprise to Apache Junction, the twenty distinct communities that make up the greater Phoenix area offer visitors everything from the slow-paced rural southwest to a bustling college atmosphere. Whether your interest is sports or archaeology, history or hiking, biking, horseback riding, or bird watching Phoenix offers something for everyone not wanting to venture beyond the Valley of the Sun.
Enjoy hiking, biking and horseback riding at the many area parks such as South Mountain, McDowell or Papago. And if quintessential southwest is your goal, explore Hohokam Indian ruins and participate in a simulated excavation at the Deer Valley Rock Art Center or pan for gold and tour a gold mine in Goldfield Ghost Town.
On the chance that it does rain or the kids simply need a break from the great outdoors, take advantage of Valley's cultural side. Children of all ages will enjoy exploring a re-created Zuni Pueblo and participating in hands-on activities at the Heard Museum, discovering science and technology at the Arizona Science Center, or taking in a performance at one of the children's theaters, Childsplay or Valley Youth Theatre.
While you will need to do a fair bit of planning if you intend to take advantage of the many activities unique to Phoenix, there is no need to venture very far. Many child-friendly activities are less than an hour's drive from anywhere in the Valley.
So if you are looking to escape the bitter cold of winter or an overcast rainy spring, plan a trip to Phoenix and once you've pulled your kids away from the numerous activities offered at your destination resort, explore a few of the many fun things to see and do in the Valley of the Sun.

Getting there
The Sky Harbor International Airport is conveniently located in the heart of Phoenix. Direct flights to/from most U.S. locations. International flights to London (UK) and several cities in Canada and Mexico.
Getting around
Your mode of transportation will greatly influence your options. While shuttle services will get you to and from your hotel and public transport will get you around downtown, families wishing to venture beyond their resort should consider renting a car. A light rail system is scheduled to begin operation in 2009.
When to travel
The best time to visit is from November to April.
Health & safety
Car seats are required for children weighing 40 pounds or less. Booster seats are required for children under the age of 8 or less than 4 feet 9 inches (144 cm) tall. Children under 12 should sit in the back seat and buckle up.
Things to keep in mind
Distance! The greater metropolitan area covers nearly 2000 square miles.

Family Travel to the Florida Keys

With upwards of 1700 islands, the Florida Keys has become one of the main vacation destinations for beach bums, cultural junkies and amateur fishers from across the country.
Unlike the neighboring Caribbean Islands that were created from volcanic explosions, the Keys themselves were created by plants and animals. The upper Keys were at one point a coral reef, which became fossilized once the sea levels began to decline.
The climate of the Keys has been described as tropical, which is more closely a resemblance of the Caribbean Islands than the rest of northern Florida. The land masses themselves are bordered on the right and left sides by the Atlantic Ocean and the Gulf of Mexico respectively.
Beautifully preserved beaches serve as a home to some of the nation's most exotic plant and animal species, which would not be able to survive anywhere except in a tropic climate such as the Florida Keys. Natural beauty mixes with danger, however, as the Keys are home to the largest population of American crocodiles. Despite the danger, family travel to the Florida Keys has never been more popular.

Key West has become the most popular island destination in the Florida Keys. From the historic streets to the white sand beaches, there is something for everyone.
Despite the fact that the Keys are surrounded by beautiful beaches and crystal-clear waters, they are not the only activities that visitors can take on. Golfing, camping and hiking are just some of the inland activities that visitors to the Keys can enjoy.
Kayaking tours through wildlife preserves have become a great way to take in the sights, sounds and smells that make the Keys a distinct and exciting vacation destination. With rare breeds of plants and birds which can only be found in the Keys, a kayak tour is the best way to observe them in their natural habitat and a great idea for family travel to the Florida Keys.
If you are planning on tying the knot anytime soon, you should know that the Keys are among the most beautiful places for a wedding in the United States. Beautiful beach resorts feature fantastic amenities that can make a beach wedding dream a possibility. From mid-afternoon ceremonies to dancing under the moonlight on the beach, anything is possible when you plan your wedding at one of the many famous Florida Keys' resorts.
Be sure you save some time to shop at the numerous gift shops which adorn the sidewalks and shopping areas on each and every island and take home a souvenir or two from your stay in the beautiful Florida Keys.
Next time you are planning a family vacation, think twice before you make a decision and then decide on family travel to the Florida Keys instead.

FAMILY TRAVEL

BY CLAY LARROY

In the world of traveling, there are plenty of great resources available to both new and experienced travelers alike. There are many websites, guides, books, videos, and other resources available. By writing this blog I hope that I am providing valuable information about wonderful vacation destinations. When you want to plan a vacation contact me!

Easy Family Travel in Great Britain - Great For Grandchildren

Anyone who has traveled in the USA with children knows how hard it can be to research the area, plan interesting activities for the kids, and at the same time, relax and enjoy your vacation, too. But when you plan your family vacation with a travel professional to plan your overseas trip, it can be worry-free.
Traveling with a family requires a different type of vacation, and traveling overseas has its own challenges - passports, time changes, disrupted sleep schedules and more. England, and all of Great Britain come to mind as stress-free family vacation destinations.
Are you or your children history buffs, Harry Potter fans, or just interested in travel? We arrange everything for your family travel packages to England, Scotland and Wales, so there is nothing for you to do but enjoy yourself.
Here are just some suggestions for your family travel packages to Great Britain:
Rent a cottage or a castle in Britain. When you'd like to be on your own, an a small house on an estate or castle grounds, or in a holiday vacation village of 8-10 identical cottages with other vacationers from around the world. Walk to the local store, cook your own meals for that finicky eater, and have your own home away from home for a week or more.
Self Drive Britain
Relive the history of your father's father's father. Visit all the sites they've only read about - King Arthur's England, the fabled land of knights and maidens, Harry Potter and more. Go wherever you please with our open prepaid voucher program, or pre-plan your itinerary. Hotels with swimming pools are highlighted for family fun.
Harry Potter Tours
Have your children enjoyed Harry's adventures? The new Harry Potter film comes out in November 2009. Be there for the buzz. See where the movies were made. All of the attractions are featured in the "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone", and "Chamber of Secrets" films including the Hogwarts School.
Self drive tours and guided tours but if you have a group of friends or family (6 or more), we can do an individual escorted tour for you. These trips are created to give children, parents and grandparents an opportunity to enjoy each other's company in a far-off and exciting destination. On these tours, enrollment is limited to family groups. Sightseeing and other special activities are designed with the interests and attention spans of all generations in mind.
Grandparents Travel to London and England.
Do you relish the idea of having your children and their children all together at one time? I got the idea for grandparent travel when I realized just how important a part grandmothers and grandfathers play in so many families. Some are baby-sitters when parents are so busy with their working lives, while others try to keep in touch though from states away, maintaining a unique relationship with their grandchildren. Is your family spread out all over the world, so this can be a once in a lifetime opportunity to get everyone together. Many grandparents are struggling with the effects of divorced, separated, second marriage, or single parent families I know the special relationship that exists between grandparents and grandchildren. A family trip to England is the answer, with something to delight every member of the family, from school-age children to grandparents. Plan your own, special itinerary with the help of your travel professional, or choose from well planned, well tested plans. Plan memories that will last a lifetime and beyond.
Scotland Family Vacation - The Clan Escorted Tour
Fun adventures include a castle climb, a visit to a sheep farm, monster-hunting and traditional music. This very special tour for your clan combines enriching experiences in the charming towns of Scotland with some extraordinary accommodations at guest houses, hotels, and inns, and even a romantic castle. Family togetherness is at a premium and no one will complain about being bored.
Small barge cruising on the River Thames
ACTIEF cruises the River Thames. Join Toad, Ratty and Mole from Kenneth Grahame "Wind In the Willows" on this truly magical journey, winding through woodland and open country, passing quintessentially English villages of great beauty en-route. This special family itinerary has been designed to combine the magic of life on the river with exciting family tours and excursions. Available for charters on any departure date. Throughout the week children (and adults too) can also enjoy rowing and fishing from Actief's dinghy. In addition Actief will run a treasure hunt and scavenger hunt, plus various other fun competition and games throughout the week.
Whatever your family needs, and no matter what their ages or attention spans, England is the perfect place for a family travel adventure.

Things to Do With Your Kids in Toronto
Copyright (c) 2010-2013 Ryan Hogan

There are a couple of things to keep in mind about Toronto. One is the weather. While Toronto has a pretty mild climate for a Canadian city, and it does experience four distinct seasons, its winters can be a bit harsh. You can expect snowfall from November through mid-April. Second, Toronto is expensive. It's often rated as the most expensive city in Canada in which to live.

So while there's plenty for your family to do in Toronto, you'll need to pay attention to the weather and to your budget. That's why our list of "Things to Do with Your Kids in Toronto" includes several indoor activities, and few inexpensive ideas. If it's at all possible, we recommend visiting Toronto in the summer.

When the weather is nice, Toronto reveals itself as one of North America's most beautiful cities. To ease any financial concern, we suggest picking one of the activities listed below and sparing no expense. That should be far more cost effective, and far more enjoyable, than trying to visit several locations on a tight budget.

The CN Tower
301 Front Street, West

Toronto's CN Tower, which protrudes 1,815 feet into the air, is the tallest free-standing structure in the Western Hemisphere and a defining feature of the city's skyline. You and your kids can ride an elevator 147 building-stories above the Ontario ground to a glass-floored observation deck. Teens will enjoy the Horizons Cafe (prices are reasonable) but keep an eye on the little ones as taller adults may in advertently squeeze them out of prime viewing spots. Even if it's a warm day in Toronto, temperatures at the top of the tower can be 10 degrees cooler.

Toronto Islands

The Toronto Islands are located in Lake Ontario just offshore from the city. Exploring these three Islands is an all-day summertime activity. To reach them, you and your kids will take a 15-minute ferry ride, which is a good time in its own right. The islands have plenty to offer families including bike rentals, wading pools, tennis, volleyball, a playground, and walking trails.

The main attraction, at least for kids under 12, is the Centreville Amusement Park. It contains over 30 rides and games, a miniature railway, and a petting zoo. Centreville was built in 1967 but is designed like a turn-of-the-century Ontario village. Teenagers might enjoy the islands as a whole but will probably be bored with the amusement park.

Hockey Hall of Fame
30 Yonge Street

The Hockey Hall of Fame is a great place to take your kids even if hockey isn't their favorite sport. Besides the prerequisite shrines to the game's greatest player, the hall of fame has plenty of interactive activities that will test your kids' hockey prowess. At the TSN Broadcast Zone, your kids can record themselves doing play-by-play of a real hockey game then e-mail the recording to whomever they like.

Kids can play Table Hockey ($1 a game) as well as video game hockey (free on the Xbox 360). It will take about four hours for you and your family to thoroughly explore everything the hall of fame has to offer. The hall is open every day except for Christmas Day, New Year's Day, and Induction Day. Check their Web site for exact hours.

High Park
1873 Bloor Street West

The 400-acre High Park contains a bevy of recreation opportunities for families. There are hiking, biking, and walking trails, a mini-petting zoo, an outdoor pool, playgrounds, six tennis courts, and since it is Canada, an ice rink. Admission to the park is free but you'll have to buy a ticket to ride the 25-minute "Trackless Train." In the summer, the Canadian Stage Company performs at the park's outdoor theatre. Kids generally enjoy these productions and admission is pay what you can. High Park is open 24 hours day, but the mini-zoo closes at dusk.

Famous People Players
342 Evans Avenue

The Famous People Players is a stage production that features brightly colored puppets set against a blacklight stage. Young children really enjoy the Famous People Players even if the songs they use are from their grandparents' era. Tweens and Teens probably won't be as thrilled as their little brothers and sisters but they should enjoy it nonetheless. Keep in mind that at least a few of the puppets are likely to interact with anyone sitting in the first couple of rows. This interaction, while playful, has been known to scare young children. The Famous People Players is also a dinner theatre. Dinner-or lunch if it's a matinee-is served before the show while dessert is served after.

Toronto Zoo
361A Old Finch Avenue

The Toronto Zoo is located in the northeast corner of the city on 710 acres. It's the third largest zoo in the world. Over 5,000 animals from 500 species live in the zoo's six zoogeographic regions: Indo-Malaya, Africa, Americas, Australasia, Eurasia and the Canadian Domain. One of the zoo's most popular attractions is the Discovery Zone. This area features the Kids Zoo, a two-acre water park, Shark's Stingray Bay, and the Waterside Theatre. Families can also enjoy the Zoomobile, the Conservation Carousel, camel rides, and pony rides. Bring a lunch as there are plenty of picnic areas. The facility is open year around but outdoor exhibits are closed during the winter months.

Ontario Place
955 Lakeshore Blvd West

Ontario Place is perhaps the best all-around family destination in Toronto. It has something for everyone. For the really young ones, there's the Creativity Centre and the Power Wheels race track-the vehicles are the perfect size for toddlers. For elementary school age kids, they can watch a movie about dinosaurs at the Cinesphere and teens will get a kick out of the venue's several thrill rides. The entire family can cool off at Ontario Place's water park, Soak City. Check their Web site for a schedule of special events and concerts. Ontario Place is open from May through September and is an all day excursion.

Ontario Science Centre
770 Don Mills Road

Kids will have so much fun at the Ontario Science Centre that they will forget they're actually learning. The centre features year-round exhibits, limited-run displays, special shows, a planetarium, and of course, an IMAX theatre. Some of the activities your kids will enjoy include climbing on the beaver dam, making a music video, participating in the bobsled simulator, and using the lie detector machine. The centre is geared towards elementary school age children but there is a surprising amount to do for both the younger and older sect. The centre is open year-round but check their Web site for a schedule of events and exact operating times.

Royal Ontario Museum
100 Queens Park Circle

Entrance to the Royal Ontario Museum, or Rom, is called the "Crystal" and it's the newest Toronto landmark. Inside, the ROM offers tons of hands-on exhibits, dress-up stations, touch screen displays, and interactive activities. There's a working beehive, live animal exhibits, a real mummy, a realistic bat cave, and a dinosaur collection. The ROM is open every day of the year but Christmas. Visit their Web site for specific hours and for a schedule of special events. Seeing everything the ROM has to offer will take about half a day.

Canada's Wonderland
9740 Jane Street
Maple, Ontario L6A 156

We're cheating a little bit as Canada's Wonderland isn't exactly in Toronto. It's a 20-minute drive from the city but well worth the trek. Canada's Wonderland is widely regarded as one of North America's best amusement parks. There's something to do for every member of the family. For your toddlers and kindergarten age children, there's Planet Snoopy. For elementary school age kids, there's the water rides, Timberwolf Falls and White Water Canyon.

For tweens and teens, the Wonderland offers the best selection of roller coasters anywhere on the continent. And for the whole family, there's the 20-acre water park, Splash Works. The entire park contains over 200 attractions and 65 exciting rides. Visit their Web site for dates of operations and a schedule of special events.
